I set out to write a new post bringing the latest on the music front. Such as some you-need-it-now album. When I finally started to write I realized how removed I have been lately from the music scene. I find that I am completely comfortable listening to the music I have. Almost that I enjoy the feeling of nostalgia lately rather than the adreneline of finding a new album.
Maybe music is like love, when you're not looking for it the good stuff comes around.
With that incredibly cliche sentence I am going to post my 'recently played' list,

Devotion and Desire-Bayside
Dancing in the Rearview-As Tall As Lions
Waiting For the 7.18-Bloc Party
Always-Blink 182
Lua-Bright Eyes
Suffragette City-David Bowie
Consider the Ravens-Dustin Kensrue
Fans-Kings of Leon
House Fire-Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin
Push Up Ya Lighter-The Roots

Nothing about them is recent but I cannot help to love and continue to listen.

Clarity's 10th Anniversary

I love Jimmy Eat World. Always have and always will. I saw them last year live at Tsongus Arena and they did not disappoint. This year Jimmy Eat World announced ten dates from coast to coast in honor of the tenth anniversary of 'Clarity'.

Yup that's right, the band will be playing Clarity from start to finish at each of these shows. Tickets went on sale this past Saturday and they are not as cheap as ten years ago. Tickets are going for upwards of $80. To me, it's totally worth it to hear For Me This Is Heaven. I am going to admit that I am not a huge fan of the mag, but the cover with my latest favorite, Vampire Weekend, made buying the magazine a no-brainer.
Vampire Weekend started their buzz in mostly blogs but now they are selling out shows all over California. These former ivy leaguers (it's true they met at Columbia University) fuse African rhythms with poppy sounds, to create an indie sound all their own. Not only did these guys graduate but they formed a band, got signed and toured Europe with the White Stripes in a matter of two years. As they mentioned in the Spin article, they owe it to the fact that they " haven't tried it before, this is just what it is," says drummer Chris Tomson.

Check out their music at their website
and then go see them at Brown University's 2008 Spring weekend, along with M.I.A. and Girl Talk.

From The West

Its not often we see summer music festivals on the east coast. Usually the summer music scene is dominated by the Van's Warped Tour, the only option left after Skate and Surf became no more. For those of us who are tired of crowd surfing and getting lost among a sea of studded belts have a new option this year. All Points West.

All Points West, a three day festival from August 8-10th, in New Jersey offers a new option. Said to be the Coachella of the east coast, All Points West has a strong line up. Radiohead, Animal Collective, Kings of Leon, Girl Talk and Metro are just a few. And with the location in New Jersey's Liberty State Park you can rest easy, the drive will not be nearly as long as it was to Bonaroo. Finally!!!!

The official website is http://www.apwfestival.com/ for more info on the line up, car pooling and tickets.

British Invasion! Trends, music, it even pointed me in the right direction for shopping all over the city. Then I realized that we're in the newest wave of a British invasion. First fashion week brought top English designers to Bryant Park then Amy Winehouse dominates the Grammy's with five wins and a great performance via satellite and now a dedication to the Union Jack in Nylon. My favorite Brit at the moment is Mark Ronson.

Mark is a DJ, producer, and solo artist from the UK. Oh, and also, a label boss and a Grammy winner. He's most known from his collaboration with Radiohead and Alex Greenwald, lead singer of Phantom Planet, on "Just". The layered with soul, funk and hip hop beats it served as Mark's inspiration for his latest album "Versions". Seemlessly, he blends his interpretations with well known pop and hip hop fathering a beautiful combination of all types of sound.

listen for yourself,

his official site, here

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://beatscene.blogspot.com/2008/02/british-invasion-mark-ronson.html' title='British Invasion! Their work illustrates music in art through the medium of silk screens.
I stumbled upon The Heads of State a couple years back while searching for posters for my room. The posters usually priced $75 and up, but they are printed in a limited quantity. There is one way you can get your hands on a Heads of State original, at the record store. They did packaging for Idlewild, Day at the Fair, Sputnik and Brand New.
On their website there are featured works handpicked by Kernevich and Summers and the State Store, a newly opened gift shop. Just today I witnessed a five minute long rant about the scene being dead, the music industry being dead and that recording, mixing, producing and marketing can all be done by a 13 year old on MySpace. I supposed the validity in that statement could go either way, as MySpace is a widely used conduit to announce shows and releases of upcoming and well known bands. But as for the music industry itself, its not just some large institution trying to charge too much for an album that you could download for free. There are many freelance and indie labels that don't see their artists as only dollar signs. It's easy to assume that the music industry is collapsing with the plummet of record sales within the last few years. I personally, believe that the music industry is changing and this is the awkward period when we figure out what works. Should more bands follow Radiohead's lead?
